This benchmark example of Keemun black tea is one of the most wonderful single-origin teas in our range. Originating from Anhui in China, this delightful tea is robust and yet smooth with malty and orchid notes with a distinct coca finish.

Keemun Mao Feng is a fine grade Chinese black tea hailing from the picturesque Huangshan Mountains in the Anhui Province of China. This area is renowned for its natural beauty and low-hanging clouds which are key to the climate that produces this delicious, distinctive tea.

Formed from tightly rolled whole black tea leaves with a distinctive curl and made from only whole leaf buds harvested in early spring, the quality of this tea is clear from the pure dry aroma of the tea before brewing even begins!

Once brewed, a robust, smooth infusion results with slight malt and smoke and a hint of orchid. The flavour is rounded out by distinct cocoa notes for a truly decadent flavour.

About Keemun Mao Feng

Keemun Mao Feng tea is a high-quality black tea that originates from Qimen County in the Qimen region of Anhui Province, China. "Keemun" is the English spelling of "Qimen," and "Mao Feng" translates to "Fur Peak," referring to the downy, fine leaf buds that are a characteristic feature of this tea. Keemun Mao Feng is known for its complex flavour profile, delicate aroma, and distinctive appearance.

The tea leaves are characterized by their downy, fine, and slightly twisted appearance. The presence of young buds contributes to the overall delicacy of the tea.

Keemun Mao Feng undergoes a careful production process that involves withering, rolling, oxidation, and drying. The oxidation level is moderate, falling between that of green tea and fully oxidized black tea.

The flavor profile of Keemun Mao Feng is often described as complex and well-balanced. It can include notes of wine, cocoa, fruit, and sometimes floral undertones. The tea has a characteristic sweetness and a smooth, lingering finish.

The tea offers a captivating aroma, which can be described as sweet, fruity, and sometimes likened to the scent of orchids. The fragrance is a key element in the overall sensory experience.

The brewed liquor of Keemun Mao Feng typically has a bright reddish-brown or amber colour, depending on the brewing time and temperature.

Keemun Mao Feng is often enjoyed on its own without the addition of milk or sweeteners to fully appreciate its nuanced flavors. However, preferences may vary, and some individuals may choose to experiment with different brewing styles.
